Definition
Managed agent hosting is a service that provisions and operates the environments agents run in, so the customer configures agents rather than servers.
In practice
What is actually being bought is the operations work, not the compute. The compute is cheap and widely available; the value is that provisioning, isolation, restarts, health monitoring, secret storage, run records, and spend enforcement stop being anyone's manual job. What managed hosting does not buy is editorial oversight. Deciding what the agent should do, and judging whether its output is any good, stays with you no matter where the agent runs, because it is a judgment about your work rather than a feature. Any vendor implying otherwise is describing a risk transfer that has not happened.
